Summer in the Fex-Valley

A PLACE LIKE NO OTHER

From mid-June, the Fextal awakens in full splendour – unspoilt wildflower meadows, crystal-clear mountain streams and a silence you can almost hear. Active or relaxed: this car-free valley offers unforgettable experiences for nature lovers, hikers and families.

The Fextal has many faces – discover your favourite:

HIKING

From leisurely strolls through flower meadows to ridge trails with glacier views – the Fextal offers routes for every level. A highlight: take the cable car to the Furtschellas mid-station and hike down through Marmorè and Las Pischas into the valley – with sweeping views across the entire Fextal.

A HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGE THROUGH THE FEXTAL

An experience that belongs on every bucket list: horse-drawn carriages take you gently from Sils village square into the car-free Fextal – past open meadows, through shaded woodland, accompanied by the sound of horse bells. In summer, the five-horse omnibus also runs on a scheduled timetable to Crasta. Tip: grab a seat up on the box.

PURE NATURE – WILDLIFE IN THE FEXTAL

Marmots, roe deer, red deer and chamois can be spotted regularly in the Fextal. A little more luck is needed to catch sight of hares and black grouse. Eagles and bearded vultures circle majestically overhead – and those with exceptional luck may encounter the legendary "Fexer Wurzelfratz".

ADVENTURES FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

When did you last dam up a mountain stream? At the banks of the Ova da Fex near Alp Muot Selvas, adults and children alike rediscover their inner child. Or look over the shoulder of the farming families in the Fex – help with the haymaking, feed the animals and learn where milk really comes from.

SWIMMING, SAILING, EXPLORING – LAKE SILS

After a hike through the Fextal, the perfect reward awaits: a dip in the crystal-clear Lake Sils, framed by peaks and stillness. Those wanting more can hire a boat, canoe or SUP at Plaun da Lej, or learn to sail on one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Graubünden. The ferry line connects the shores and makes the lake explorable without any equipment of your own.

WHERE NIETZSCHE CONCEIVED THE ÜBERMENSCH

The Engadin has long inspired thinkers, poets and painters. Friedrich Nietzsche spent seven summers in Sils Maria and found here the inspiration for Thus Spoke Zarathustra. His house is now a museum. In summer, concerts, readings and exhibitions throughout the region invite further cultural discovery – culture at 1,800 metres above sea level.

EMBRACE THE STILLNESS

The car-free Fextal is a place of tranquillity like no other. Read, write, paint or simply let your mind wander – here you will find the space for it. The sun terrace of the Sonne Fex is the perfect spot to let the day wind down slowly.

AUDIO TRAIL INTO THE VAL FEX

Hiking with all the senses: the new audio trail leads you through the Fextal, sharing stories along the way about nature, culture and the people who live here – created in collaboration with Pro Fex.
